If you're planning your summer vacations now, make sure that you take a look at our Summer Romance Package Sale. We're running the sale from July 1st through September 30th, including the July 4th and Labor Day Weekends. As usual, holiday periods require a three night minimum stay, but we've still got rooms available in all of our rate categories at this point. If you're interested in a specific room, you should book now. We'll still have rooms available for awhile, but the room that you want may be gone.

Will you be home for the holidays but still want to have a nice getaway during the week? We're sold out for Christmas but we've still got availability between Christmas and New Year's - including some rooms with jacuzzis.

Would you like to come for New Year's weekend you can't meet the three-night minimum? Consider coming for a shorter stay during the week. We can also put you on a waiting list for a shorter stay over New Year's weekend where we can "squeeze you in" between two longer reservations. Tickets for the 15th Annual Amelia Island Christmas Tour of Inns will be available for purchase in person beginning November 1st, but you can beat the crowd by purchasing online now. This wonderful event has expanded this year to include a Hometown Holiday Celebration so that you can see what all the fuss is about for those of us who are fortunate enough to call Amelia Island "home". The kids around here go back to school this Monday, and many parents of school-age kids are too busy to travel right now. July has been an exceptionally busy one for "girls getaways" but we've still got some good availability for August. How about another getaway before the kids go back to school? In Florida, school starts at the beginning of August, so there's less competition for rooms for mother-daughter getaways for our friends up north, or for those that have a flexible schedule. Some local spas are running specials too...

We have just announced our Thanksgiving packages for 2006. You can find details and pricing at www.fairbankshouse.com/thanksgiving.html .

It's one of the best holiday weekends of the year here in Fernandina Beach. The whole island is freshly decked out in holiday decorations, including our charming Victorian village. There are tree-lighting ceremonies and light displays, as well as great shopping, and wonderful pajama party thrown by the Center Street Merchants on Friday morning. Shop in your pajamas for a discount.

After our wonderful Thanksgiving morning breakfast at the Fairbanks House, we'll take a two-hour narrated boat tour with Amelia River Cruises where you'll hear the history and lore of both Amelia Island and Cumberland Island. We'll travel up the coasts of both. With some luck, we'll even see some of the wild horses of Cumberland.

Come back to the inn, watch some football or a movie or take a nap. After hors d'oeuvres, we'll have Thanksgiving dinner at the fabulous Beech Street Grill; a block and a half from the inn.

This package is perfect for couples or families with adult siblings who want to enjoy the holiday instead of the work. Ahhhh.... autumn on Amelia Island. Our perfect 80 degree days and 60 degree nights have been just what our guests from the north country have been enjoying for the past few weeks. Golf, tennis, kayaking, carriage tours, boat tours, farmers' markets and gallery strolls have all been seeing Fairbanks House guests in record numbers throughout October and early November.

The kids are all back in school so it's kind of like "adult swim" time on Amelia Island. At Fairbanks House, we call it "Grownup Season," complete with Grownup Season Romance Specials. It pays to take a walk around your own town. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the activities of our bed and breakfast that we forget to stop and smell the roses. I took a walk around our wonderful town this morning enjoying all of the fresh plantings all along Centre Street, all of the water bowls out in front of the shops for the island's treasured four-legged friends, the locals out having their morning coffee at the cafes or on their own front porches and I got to catch up on some new happenings.

There is a lovely boardwalk going in along the river front at our harbor. It's got nice benches for viewing so that you can watch the shrimp boats and sailboats come and go. We frequently spot otters, dolphins, gators and manatees right at our riverfront, as well. I ran into Captain Ritch on the river while he was working on one of his boats, and he informed me that he's got a new website to feature the many boating options he offers his customers. Speaking of boat tours, our guests have been enjoying some very nice outings this summer getting the history of the area, checking out the wild horses on Cumberland Island, spotting lots and lots of dolphins along the way, and occassionally seeing a submarine from King's Bay. Goylz, goylz, goylz. For the last three years, Fairbanks House has featured "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Getaways" http://www.fairbankshouse.com/girls.html . This extremely popular package has ratcheted up the laugh factor at our house exponentially. Do not misunderstand; this is not the Girls Gone Wild crowd - it's the Girls Gone Mild version, but we still have lots of fun.

Since the inception of the package, we've noticed that there's lots of competition for certain times of the year. This weekend, we've got three "girls' groups" in-house from all over. If you're planning a girls getaway, and we hope you are, please note that you should plan way ahead if you're planning on coming in March, April, June July, September, October and November. The first weekend in April this year, we had 25 women from five different groups. And three men all named "Tom". Nice guys - they handled it well. Not sure about their wives...
